Description
The picture shows a typical farm close to Mt Kilimanjaro. The farmer intercrops coffee, banana, and beans. Mixed cropping has many advantages for the farmer: coffee plants need shade which is provided by banana plants and trees. Beans add nutrients to the soil. Banana and beans are used for home consumptions and a surplus is sold on local markets. Coffee is sold with the help of a cooperative and provides additional income.
