Variable Binding into one Central Adverbial Clauses and one Peripheral Adverbial Clauses using the QP jede NP 'every NP', testing for an effect of genericity (2)

Description

This experiment tests potential Principle C violations across clauses.

The experimental tool used was Variable Binding in order to investigate the degree of integration of the German peripheral adverbial clauses introduced by adversative während 'while, whereas', and the German central adverbial clauses, introduced by temporal während 'while', into their main clauses.

This experiment is part of a series that tests for an effect of genericity in the sentence material on binding. Fox & Sauerland (1996) claim that genericity might create an "illusion of binding". This might be the case in peripheral-adverbial-clause conditions that should not allow binding but still received quite acceptable judgements in previous studies - which is not predicted in the literature.
