Codes for jointly optimizing measurement and modeling strategies with application to radial flow in stratified aquifers
Creators
Description
Matlab codes for simulating radial symmetric steady-state groundwater flow in (a) a set of hydraulic tests and (b) a hypothetical dewatering scenario. This package provides the simulation results of (a) and (b) considering 20,000 realizations of highly resolved hydraulic conductivity fields as well as of four simplified parameter spaces. Based on the simulation results, drawdown differences are computed between a reference location and all other observations of a given measurement design to mimic a steady-shape regime. The drawdown differences are used to mimic a best-fit calibration by minimizing the sum of squared differences between each highly resolved K-field and the ensemble of each model candidate considering different measurement designs. Finally, the measurement and modeling strategies are optimized by minimizing the prediction uncertainty of the fully-upscaled radial and vertical conductivities and the dewatering flux to keep a construction pit dry.
