Does the crosslinguistic comparison of motion verb constructions facilitate learning? Evidence from a randomized controlled trial in authentic Spanish classes (Poster presentation at EuroSLA35)

Authors/Creators

Description

This poster presents the key findings of the randomized controlled trial, 'Crosslinguistic Usage-Based Constructional Instruction', which was conducted from April to November 2025 in sixteen Spanish classes in southern Germany. The study examined the effectiveness of comparing prepositions in motion verb constructions across different languages in an authentic instructional setting.

Funding for the project was granted by the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes and the LEAD Graduate School and Research Network at the University of Tübingen. Additional support was provided by the German Society for Foreign Language Research, the Leibniz Institute for Knowledge Media, and the Romance Department at the University of Tübingen.

The poster will be presented at the 35th annual conference of the European Second Language Association (EUROSLA35) at NOVA University Lisbon on Friday 26 June.
