Verb types in Locative Inversion

Description

This dataset describes an experiment investigating the following questions: 1. is LI judged acceptable with both verb types? 2. does the heaviness of the subject play a crucial role for the acceptability? 3. do unergative verbs require a right-adjacent subject? Our studies show that LI is equally acceptable with unaccusative and unergative verbs independently of the heaviness of the subject. Additionally, even unergative verbs are judged acceptable when the postverbal subject is followed by a VP adverbial, i.e. when it is not right-adjacent
